For the Steak:
- 2 ribeye steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
For the French Onions & Mushrooms:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 tsp dried thyme)
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Rub steaks with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove from skillet and let rest.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, 10-15 minutes.
- Add mushrooms and garlic. Cook for 5-7 minutes until mushrooms soften. Stir in thyme, beef broth. Let simmer until liquid reduces. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon the onion and mushroom mixture over the steaks. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.

- For a more well-done steak, cook 1-2 minutes longer per side.
