- 1 bunch green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
- 1/4 cup (60ml) chicken broth
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Chicken: Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Brown the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken thighs, skin-side down, and brown for 4-5 minutes on each side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Make the Sauce: Add soy sauce, chicken broth, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Stir and scrape up any brown bits from the skillet.
- Braise the Chicken: Return chicken to the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes until tender.
- Add Green Onions: In the last 5 minutes, stir in the green onions. For a thicker sauce, stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tsp cornstarch mixed with water).
- Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

- Swap chicken thighs for boneless breasts or drumsticks if preferred.
